Washington (TFT) – On June 12, during its annual Memorial Ceremony, the Central Intelligence agency added four etched stars to its Memorial Wall. Every year new stars are added to honor those officers killed in the line of duty.
Built in 1974, the wall now features 129 stars, permanent reminders of the anonymous bravery and dedication to country that will likely never be known by the public. The classification of the CIA’s operations are so strict, the annual ceremony is “the only time when fallen officers who were undercover have their names read aloud”.
During the June 12 ceremony, recently appointed CIA Director Gina Haspel honored the fallen saying, “They live on in our thoughts and prayers and remain forever among our ranks—a constant source of pride, inspiration, and strength for those of us who carry on their mission.”
The observance was attended by hundreds of CIA officers and employees, along with the families of the fallen. Director Haspel presented each family of the departed with their own memorial star.
